OpenMind Alliance Academy (OMAA) is a private school for students with special needs. We follow Ontario curriculum.

Our students come to us sharing one common concern: they are not successful in the conventional school environment. These students are faced with various challenges such as maladaptive behaviours, speech delay… and the list goes on. The general opinion has been that 'teaching appropriate behaviours' should take precedent over all others, including academics. However, with this approach, as behaviour issues are being addressed, the students often fall too far behind academically to be re-integrated with their peers.

OMAA strives to offer our students a more well-rounded education by addressing individual needs in both the academic and the behaviour areas. We have proven successful cases in bringing our students closer to their actual grade level through the deployment of our three-phase plan :

        


The Emergent Phase:

  • Acknowledgment and co-operation
  • Emergent imitation
  • Environmental awareness - Labelling
  • Visual performance
  • On-task behaviours
  • Early academic (alphabets, shapes and numbers)
  • Understand and follow instruction
  • Play skills – explore and discover
The Bridging Phase:
  • Imitation (vocal and motor)
  • Request attention
  • Independent task completion
  • Story time
  • Group dynamics
  • Reading simple story
  • Math concepts
The Re-entry Phase:
  • Classroom routines
  • Language program (social communication)
  • More advanced academic skills
  • Team work
