OpenMind Alliance is a Literacy Centre for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

We are not a replacement of our schools. We want to teach our children so that they may be more successful at school !

Very often, students with autism seem to be more capable at home than at school. This problem may be caused by a combination of the home-and-school environmental differences and the lack of learning skills.

Environmental differences : Home is the safe haven for children with Autism. At home, sensory challenges such as movements and noise are controlled. This is not the case in school. The school is active and lively. Sensory overload is a constant danger for students with ASD. Very often, coping with the environment becomes the primary focus for these children. Additional academic learning becomes the last straw that breaks the camel’s back.

Learning skills : Students with Autism have developmental gaps in language and communication. Learning is often impeded not only by their communications but also by the difficulties in focusing their attention to the right person or event.

When these two issues combine, the hurdle becomes too high for many children.

At OpenMind Alliance, we aim to teach our students the skills to learn in an environment designed to simulate a school but to a smaller scale. We teach our students the academic skills so that they have one less worry when they are in school. We also teach learning techniques in our simulated school environment so that they know what do at school.

Student Success is our focus !
